A large spreading open-crowned tree with a smooth and powdery bark. The bark is a lemon yellow to greenish yellow.  The leaves occur in pairs of small leaflets adjacent to white spines that are paired, often slender and conical at the base. The fragrant flowers occur in round golden balls on slender stalks. The tree generates long, flat papery pods that are pale brown in colour.
