A fast growing tall evergreen palm with a long slender trunk and a small rounded crown. The leaves are large fan shaped and rich green in colour with slightly drooping ends. Dead leaves fold against the scarred trunk forming layers of flat leaves like a skirt. It bears white flowers in large clusters that turn into black small rounded fruits.
