A good turf grass forming dense mats on the soil surface that spreads quickly. Long leaf blades grow on a network of stolons (stems). It is an excellent ground cover to combat surface soil erosion. The grass  prefers at least moderately drained soils. It is moderately drought tolerant, because of deep root system. Grass should be cut to about 5 cm maximum in height. Kikuyu grass should be planted in areas with full sun exposure because it has low shade tolerance.
